Outline:
Webster dictionary defines a griddle as “ a flat stone or metal surface on which food is baked or fried”. An essential cooking appliance that dates back centuries, with its oldest piece of evidence going back to ancient rome. Hundreds of human civilizations have utilized the griddle. Influencing these civilizations’ culture:recipe/culinary tradition, diets/well being , economy, enables social bonding, and helps form a cultural identity. The griddle has been a staple in modern and ancient cultures and has undergone a lot of evolutionary changes. For instance Native Americans used flat rocks over an open fire, as a makeshift griddle, while other civilizations like ancient Rome and Greece used flat pans made out of metal, with a low height to cook foods. Griddles from the 19th century and a portion of the 20th centuries were renowned for their cast iron material, which was ideal due the material ability to retain heat. All of these innovations led to the new fab when purchasing a griddle. As these innovations led to a variety of smaller/bigger, electrically powered griddles of the modern era.
The Cuisinart Griddler, model: GR-4NP1, as shown in figure 1, is a multifunctional griddle. Providing users with 5 options of cooking as this model serves as a contact grill, panini press, full grill, full griddle and half grill/half griddle. This is a small and compact griddle with dimensions of 13.5″D x 11.5″W x 7.12″H and a mass of 11.44 pounds(5.2 Kilograms). Produced by Cuisinart, a company notable for their production of kitchen appliances and cookware; this product is sold at an affordable price; as it’s currently retail price range between 90-100 dollars at retailers like amazon and target. The Griddler has a silver completion due to its composition of brushed stainless steel. The Cuisinart Griddler is composed of a total of 16 parts, with 5 main parts: Base and Cover Unit( subparts: Power Cord, Heating Rods, Plate Release buttons, Cooking Plate Holders, Hinge Release Lever, Steel Insulated Cord, Panini Style Handlebar), Dual-sided cooking plates( Subparts: Grill/Panini side and Griddle side), Control Panel (Subparts: Switches and Light indicators), Cleaning/scraping tool, and Drip Tray.( Figure 1)

Heating Rods
The function of heating rods is to convert electrical energy t into thermal energy in order to generate heat for the appliance. Enabling the GR-4NP1 Griddler to be set and controlled at a specific temperature based on the user’s control panel inputs. The GR-4NP1 is capable of operating under a variety of temperature ranges because of the steel heatings rods. Displaying a silver color that darkens after use. The heating rods are placed in the base and cover Unit, as a smooth but yet rigid cylindrical shape that runs along the surface of these units in a wave pattern. Due to this pattern the heating rods dimensions were difficult to calculate due to heating rods irregular and inconsistent shape. ( Figure 4)
